The Constructor 8.0 and Microsoft Vista

Problems installing the Constructor 8.0 with Vista

Some people may have difficulty installing the Constructor on a machine with Windows Vista. There is a user account control window that may come up asking you to allow the installation, some people may find out that even by choosing to allow that it will not let you continue. You can temporarily turn off the "user account control" feature by going to "Control Panel" then "User Accounts" then turn off the user account control setting. Be sure to turn it back on after the Constructor is installed.

Constructor 8.0 Help file not working with Vista

Microsoft (in their infinite wisdom) has decided that the older Windows help files (*.hlp) should no longer be supported in the new Windows operating system - Vista. This means you'll get a message from Windows when you try to access the help file. According to Microsoft there will be a new download for WinHlp32.exe in the near future from them.

See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917607 for more information.

In the meantime we are in the process of converting the help file over to the newer (*.chm) help format. We will post a link here, when it is finished. Vista compatible help file

Constructor 8.0 problem with simulation and some Vista computers

After installing The Constructor on a PC that has any Windows Vista operating system, if you experience problems with The Constructor when trying to simulate you may need to change the compatibility mode that the program runs in. Until we find a solution to this issue, you can change the compatibility by following these steps after you've installed The Constructor.

    • Right click on The Constructor desktop shortcut
    • Choose "Properties"
    • Select the "Compatibility" tab
    • Check the box that reads "Run this program
      in compatibility mode for:"
    • Choose the Win95 or Win98 option
    • Click "Apply" then "Okay"

From here you may then start your Constructor and begin using normally. This is only a temporary solution until we can find out what is causing this problem for some users.
